    How it works

We are here from the first call

For many people this will be the first time they have arranged a funeral. We understand it is an emotional time, so from the moment you get in touch, we will be by your side to listen to what you need and guide you through each step. Your arranger will look after you from beginning to end, always just a phone call or text away.

We collect and care for your loved one

We’ll arrange collection and ensure your loved one is cared for with dignity and respect at every stage.
If your loved one is resting in a hospital or a place with mortuary facilities, collection is included in our standard fee. However in the cases where the deceased is at home we need to organise an immediate collection (this incurs an additional charge).

    We carry out the cremation

For the majority of families, the cremation will take place at one of our own Memoria crematoria. Where this is not practically possible, we work with a trusted partner. We use a quality wood coffin, and the cremation will always be carried out with the utmost dignity and respect.

We return or scatter the ashes

When the cremation is complete, you can choose what feels right, having the ashes returned in a simple urn, hand delivered to you, or scattered in our gardens of remembrance.

    Frequently asked questions

A direct cremation is a simple cremation without a service or mourners present. Your loved one is cared for with dignity, the cremation takes place, and the ashes are either returned to you or scattered, depending on your wishes. Many families choose this option because it allows them to say goodbye in their own way and at a time that feels right.
A direct cremation does not include a service or attendance at the crematorium. Instead, it gives families the freedom to remember and say goodbye in their own way, wherever and whenever feels most meaningful.
Our direct cremation costs start from £1,145. The price includes collection from a hospital, care, cremation, and the provision or scattering of ashes. Optional extras, such as hand delivery of ashes, are also available, if it’s not practical for you to collect the ashes from the crematorium.

The majority of cremations are carried out at one of our own crematoria across mainland UK. Our crematoria are modern, state of the art facilities where our expert teams will take care of your loved one. In certain parts of the country, where it is not practical to use one of our own crematoria, we select one from our handpicked network of chosen providers. While you can’t select the crematorium yourself and it may not always be the nearest crematorium to your home, you can be assured of the same high standard of care at every location.

We will let you know where and when the cremation is taking place once booked in, so you can have your own private moment of reflection at that time.
After the cremation, you can decide what you would like to do with the ashes. We can arrange hand delivery for an additional cost, or we can scatter them in the crematorium’s gardens of remembrance for you if you would prefer. If it is practical, you may wish to collect the ashes yourself directly from the crematorium at no extra cost. You can either take them home or may want to scatter them yourself at the crematorium. There are also memorial options at many crematoria, from interment of the ashes to more natural memorials like planting a rosebush.

We’ll discuss the options with you so you can choose what feels most meaningful.

    Simple and affordable

A direct cremation is a simple, no fuss funeral, at a crematorium, but without any family or friends in attendance. There is no service. This removes traditional funeral directors’ fees, hearses and expenses like flowers or celebrants, it is a straightforward option that keeps costs low without compromising on care.

This approach is less expensive than an attended funeral and allows you the space and freedom to remember your loved one in your own way. A Memoria Direct Cremation could save you up to £3,000 against a traditional attended funeral*.

*In 2024 an increase of 3.5% in the average cost of a simple attended funeral, took the cost to a new all-time high of £4,285.
