Is direct cremation right for you?

Direct cremation is a simple, dignified, and affordable alternative to a traditional funeral. It is often chosen by families who prefer a quiet farewell without the ceremony and expense of a formal service. By removing elements like a hearse, flowers, and venue hire, it focuses on providing compassionate care for your loved one while saving your family from unnecessary financial strain.

This approach may be the right choice if:

  • Your loved one expressed a wish for a no-fuss farewell.
  • You want to alleviate the stress and cost of organising a traditional funeral.
  • Family members live far apart, making it difficult to coordinate a service.
  • You would prefer to plan a more personal memorial or celebration of life at a later date.

Whatever your reason, you can be certain that the cremation will be carried out with the utmost respect and professionalism.

Frequently asked questions

A direct cremation is a simple cremation without a service or mourners present. Your loved one is cared for with dignity, the cremation takes place, and the ashes are either returned to you or scattered, depending on your wishes. Many families choose this option because it allows them to say goodbye in their own way and at a time that feels right.

A direct cremation does not include a service or attendance at the crematorium. Instead, it gives families the freedom to remember and say goodbye in their own way, wherever and whenever feels most meaningful.

Our direct cremation costs start from £1,145, with no hidden fees. The price includes collection from a hospital, care, cremation, and the provision or scattering of ashes. Optional extras, such as hand delivery of ashes, are also available, if it’s not practical for you to collect the ashes from the crematorium.

Prepaid direct cremation plans costs start from £1,595 – one of the lowest priced cremation plans available in the UK.

The majority of cremations are carried out at one of our own crematoria across mainland UK. Our crematoria are modern, state of the art facilities where our expert teams will take care of your loved one. In certain parts of the country, where it is not practical to use one of our own crematoria, we select one from our handpicked network of chosen providers. While you can’t select the crematorium yourself and it may not always be the nearest crematorium to your home, you can be assured of the same high standard of care at every location.

We will let you know where and when the cremation is taking place once booked in, so you can have your own private moment of reflection at that time.

After the cremation, you can decide what you would like to do with the ashes. We can arrange hand delivery for an additional cost, or we can scatter them in the crematorium’s gardens of remembrance for you if you would prefer. If it is practical, you may wish to collect the ashes yourself directly from the crematorium at no extra cost. You can either take them home or may want to scatter them yourself at the crematorium. There are also memorial options at many crematoria, from interment of the ashes to more natural memorials like planting a rosebush.

We’ll discuss the options with you so you can choose what feels most meaningful.
